SWOT Legal launches: a temporary legal staffing start-up

A team of 80 lawyers with varying levels of seniority and specializations is already up and running.

The goal for the first three years is to become a leading player in this sector in Italy.

It is called SWOT Legal and is the first Italian start-up specializing in temporary legal staffing, a service that allows companies and law firms to avail of the services of teams of qualified lawyers for temporary needs, without having to hire new staff.

"Temporary legal staffing is part of the Alternative Legal Service Providers (ALSP) market that generates $20 billion annually, especially in the United States, where nearly 70% of multinationals regularly use these services. We are convinced that will be strong interest in Italy, where temporary work is already widespread in several high-value-added professional sectors, including healthcare, IT, and engineering," explains Ian Tully, an Irish-born lawyer who, after 20 years as a partner at large international firms, founded SWOT Legal with his colleague Alessandra Del Bianco, also an experienced private practice legal professional.

SWOT Legal is an innovative start-up founded in July 2023 and operational since early 2024, with a database of 80 lawyers with varying seniority and specializations—from civil and corporate law to administrative law, from contract law to compliance and financial law, and across various industrial sectors—the result of a selection of nearly 500 profiles.

The company uses a proprietary, cloud-based technology platform that facilitates the matching process between candidate profiles and the specific needs of companies, also enabling rapid response in case of emergencies.

The company's strategic plan for the first three years of operation aims at becoming a leading player in this sector in Italy and to gradually expand into other European countries.

"Having a certain number of additional, fixed-term lawyers is an almost daily necessity for companies, due to absences and maternity leave replacements, workload peaks, and extraordinary transactions. It also represents an opportunity for a growing number of lawyers, often younger professionals, who are not attracted to the traditional organization of law firms and want to practice with greater flexibility," adds Del Bianco.
